England wins the 2025 Association Croquet Home International Championship
In the closest fought Home International Championship in the tournament’s history, Jack Good scores the winning point for England.
David Maugham captained the England Team of five at Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club, in what he calls the “Closely contested Home Internationals ever.”
The team were delighted to take the win, taking the title by one game. Ireland were the close second, followed by Scotland then Wales.
The 2025 England Team:
Jack Good (Bowdon Croquet Club)
Gabrielle Higgins (Sussex County Croquet Club)
Team Captain, David Maugham (Bowdon Croquet Club)
Stephen Mulliner (Surbiton Croquet Club)
Aston Wade (Hurlingham Club)
Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club hosted the event, the impressive 11 lawn club were able to provide additional courts as rain flooded play on the first day. The final scores show exactly how close the test matches were. Ireland and England both won two tests each, and although England lost the test to Ireland, England took 21 game wins over Ireland’s 20.
Three of the team members, Good, Higgins and Mulliner will now be driving north to Nottingham Croquet Club where play starts for the Men’s Women’s and Mixed Doubles Championship. We will be following their progress over the next week.
