Team England win their first test and defeat Australia

The Association Croquet World Team Championship is now well underway and Team England have successfully defeated Australia in the first of their test matches.  England are now facing America in the second series of the competition for the MacRobertson Shield.

Following the event closely is Croquet England’s CEO, Andy Dalby-Welsh, who has been travelling to each location to watch the England Team progress.  He says “It was a privilege to attend the opening ceremony of the MacRobertson shield on Thursday. The play has been of a great standard with the England team getting off to a flyer beating Australia with a day to spare. The team’s preparations have been aided by the support of team sponsors Alliance Whitton. We are hugely grateful for their support of the England team.”

Mark Atkinson from Alliance Witan, the official England Team sponsors, has sent his messages of support to the team:

“Congratulations to Team England on a superb performance in securing victory over Australia in the opening Test. The players have shown the strategic thinking, resilience and concentration that are hallmarks of success in croquet. Everyone at Alliance Witan is delighted to support the team, and we wish them every success for the remainder of the series.”

The courts at Sussex County Croquet Club have proved challenging for all the players, the England Team are showing great skill and determination and have already set themselves a 2-1 lead in the 21 match test.

Croquet is opening its doors to spectators at all locations to encourage more people to find out what the sport has to offer.  Entry is free at all clubs hosting the event and there will be players and officials waiting to introduce themselves and offer commentary.  Every day of the event at all locations is open to spectators.

Join Andy Dalby-Welsh, Chief Executive of Croquet England and Alison Maugham, Croquet England Communications, at Surbiton Croquet Club on Wednesday 5th August and Sunday 9th August who will be hosting two days of Pimms and Play alongside the final test match of the event.  Andy comments “Croquet England is excited to be hosting such a prestigious event.  We invite you to come and take in the world class competition, to try your hand at Croquet and share a drink with us, at this beautiful setting in Surbiton.”
