Beyond Expert Croquet Tactics

Keith Wylie’s book Expert Croquet Tactics has been the bible for aspiring champions since it was first published in 1985. Top level association croquet has changed a lot since then but no-one has dared to publish a book to update Wylie – until now.

It’s a few years since the idea was mooted that a team of top-ranking players might author such a publication.

Putting Such a multi-author book together would have been a considerable challenge for any commercial publisher – and it certainly turned out to be just that for the CA, whose members had not produced anything like this before.

The Book not only covers tactical developments in the game since Wylie (including refinements of triple peeling, sextuple peels, super-shot openings, pegged-out end games, peeling the opponent, and super‑advanced tactics) but psychological aspects of self-development, match preparation and how to compete most effectively; along with sections on equipment, statistics and a history of top level play.

The Book as a whole is designed to help players understand how best to develop their game, and to maximise their potential – including those who will reach the very top of world-class competition.

Authors: Keith Aiton, Reg Bamford, Paddy Chapman, Chris and Jenny Clarke, Martin French, Robert Fulford, David Maugham, Stephen Mulliner, David Openshaw, William Ormerod, Samir Patel, Pete Trimmer and Chris Williams.

You will probably recognise many of their names as true croquet experts – no less than five of them have won the World Championship. They have each spent a considerable time on their contributions; they also kindly agreed to contracts without any royalties so that Croquet England can offer this new testament of croquet expertise at an attractive price.

A book for the committed croquet player. I purchased as a birthday present for my son, who is thrilled with it. The ordering process and the shipping and quality of the book on delivery in Australia were excellent. Thanks.

  2. Nikki O

    Great book.

  3. Nikki O

    Great book.

  4. Ian W

Excellent book. It’s good to know the heights one can aspire to in croquet. It’s doubtful if I will rise higher than base station but to know some people stand at the peak shows it is possible. Back to the hoops!!

The book is excellent and my husband hasn’t put it down since receiving it as a birthday present. Only one comment, I paid for the express delivery and although it did arrive within the 2 day timeframe, I was a little surprised that it had only been sent by ordinary un-tracked 2nd class post. I would have expected a slightly more reliable service to have been used.

Book is excellent, just need a lawn to try things out on!
